All Ages Events List

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

There’s not a lot going on at The Placebo at the moment: we’re busy moving into our new shared space and, of course, it’s the end of the school year and the beginning of traveling time.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t any all-ages shows happening, however. One extremely nifty way to find out what’s going on in (primarily) NoHum is to sign up for jASMINE’s All-Ages Events mailing list. Just email her at weekend.related.news at gmail dot com to get signed up and/or to let her know of an all-ages show you’re putting on.

As if that wasn’t enough, jASMINE also just gave The Placebo copies of a ton of photos she’s taken of The Placebo events, all the way up to this year’s Punk Prom. There are so many, that we’ve created a gallery just for her pics.
don't know who this is, but she's playing keyboards and bass while singing

Sorry about the downtime

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

The site move took longer than I expected due to some technical hijinks, but everything at theplacebo.net should be working now. If the site or feeds are not working for you, let me know at the comments here or email webadmin at theplacebo dot org and I’ll get on it straight away. Thanks for your patience.

Edited to add: MySQL upgrade broke the Calendar subscription; that’s fixed now.

Edited yet again: The 2005 punk prom pictures are restored; thanks to jrock.

Moving the Site

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Over the next week or two, I’ll be moving theplacebo.net and theplacebo.net to a new host. Hopefully, there will be very little downtime, but if you visit the site and something’s wonky, it’s probably to do with the move. Once there, I’ll be adding more goodies, like a forum and instant messaging. So Stay Tuned…

In the News

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

This week we got a couple of mentions in the Arcata Eye. The cover article, featuring a photo of the lovely and hard-working Abe and Julie, talks about our recent presentation to the Arcata Parks and Rec Committee. Recreation Division Manager Karen Diemer says,

“[The Placebo] have certainly done more outreach in the [D St.] neighborhood than any other group… They’re the only youth-directed group providing drug-and-alcohol-free activities for teens, and their goals are still strongly supported by City Council.”

On the scene page, hip mama Jennifer Savage Jen lets us know it’s the rocking Mr. Terrence McNally who makes us blush

“All hail the mighty Placebo ? unquestionably the hardest working non-profit around.”

You can find links to these articles and many more on our Press page

On another subject, if you’re wondering where our myspace page went, ask them not us. It was deleted without warning, allegedly because some body claimed we put stuff up there that wasn’t ours. Not True. Any images, music, or articles on our sites are there by permission of the creators. What’s especially strange is that we didn’t have any files on our myspace page that didn’t belong specifically to The Placebo. We’re trying to get the myspace account back, but don’t hold your breath: they say they’ve already deleted everything that was there.

To our myspace friends: we miss you, come say “hi” here! Leave us a comment.

Upgrade and Maintenance Today

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

The Placebo site may be down for part of today as I’m going to be upgrading and extending the software. This is the second half of the site overhaul, which is why I’ll probably need to take it offline for a bit.

Also, there’s a board meeting tonight (Sunday, Feb 19, 2006) at 5:30 at the Ink People building in Eureka (map). As always, everybody is welcome. In addition to our normal business, I’ll be showing members how to make use of the new site ? any Placebo board member who wants to can post news, pics, etc, and you don’t need to know any code. _dao

Welcome to the New Site

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

Hope you like it. We unexpectedly lost our old site last week, but that’s OK: it was time for a change anyway. Here’s some stuff about our new home:

  • General information about The Placebo ? like how to contact us, what it is that we do, and whether we have an address yet /grin/ ? is located on the About The Placebo page.
  • There’ll probably be a lot of big and little changes to the website in the next few months, so there’s a Site News page, too.
  • We now have RSS feeds. To be automatically notified when we update the blog/news section ? that’s this page right here ? just add the RSS Entries feed to your RSS reader.
  • You can now comment on entries! However, if you haven’t posted on this site before ? which, of course, you haven’t; no one has ? your comment has to be approved by one of us before it will show up. It’s something we have to do cuz of the evil spammers. We’ve installed spam-catching software, and have removed comment moderation. If you’re comment doesn’t appear straight away, it may have been erroneously categorized as spam. We look at all those, so it’ll get posted before long.

That’s it for now. If you have any suggestions or notice anything that’s not working quite right, just click on the title of this post and then “leave a reply”.
