First Meeting of The Placebo Harm Reduction Collective

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

The Placebo Harm Reduction Collective focuses on reducing the harm done by drugs, alcohol, depression, and anxiety. The goal is to help on the path to sobriety and freedom from anxiety and depression without dictating how exactly you have to achieve this. This group is intended as an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous and does not participate in the 12 steps or a higher power (god) but does recognize & respect AA as an effective treatment for the people that it works for. The HRC is a sub group of The Placebo. Meetings are open to all ages, and are created for Humboldt County’s diverse music, art, film, and literature scene. Contact us for info and/or volunteer work: hrc at theplacebo.org

When: Tuesday, January 2 from 5pm to 7 pm
Where: in the community kitchen of the Eureka Co-op, 4th and B
Cost: Free, but you do need to have a Placebo membership ($2)

Knitting Circle Art Hang

Friday, October 13th, 2006

We’re going to have the knitting club thingy — what do I have to do to get name suggestions, must there be prizes? — every 2nd Friday of the month. The general Art Hang thingies (at which, I hasten to add, knitting is welcome) proceed apace every Friday from 4-8pm.
(Except for the days directly before Arts Alive when the space just might be too full of E2 folks Hanging Art for there to be group harmony. I know that’s a tad confusing, so I’ll keep on posting notices here every week.)

To sum: This week? KNITTING (and whatever else people want to get up to. um… within limits which may be decided on the spot)

When: Friday, October 13 from 4pm till the Electric Melanoma show starts
Where: The Placebo / E2 - 47B W 3rd St, between A and Commercial (map)
Cost: Free! (but bring your own supplies) Donations, she is always welcome.

Art Hang and Knitting Circle

Friday, September 8th, 2006

We had to skip last Friday because E2 was actually hanging art for Arts Alive, but come down this Friday afternoon/evening to soak in the artistic ambience of E2 / The Placebo’s art & hangout space.

We’re having the 2nd meeting of the Placebo’s knitting circle thingy (no name yet; open to suggestions): learn how to knit, purl, switch yarn colors, etc. If you already know how, teach someone else or work on your own project. All ages and genders welcome!

Of course, if you just wanna hang out and talk or read/write/draw/dance/spin in circles till you get dizzy/etc., you can do that, too.

When: Friday September 8, 4-8pm
Where: The Placebo / E2 47B West 3rd St in Eureka (by the new Co-op)
Cost: Free! Bring your own supplies (beginning knitters can use our needles and yarn)

When: Friday August 25 4pm - 8pm
Where: The Placebo / E2 — 47B W 3rd St (between A and Commercial) in Eureka

The Placebo knitting circle (suggestions for a cool name are welcome) will be there, too. All skill-levels welcome. We’ll teach you how to knit (it’s way easy) and have practice yarn and needles for beginners.

Our first Hang is Friday, August 11.

See You There

Skillshare: Behind the Scenes

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

You can make the scene happen by being part of the core decision making at the Placebo. Decide when Bummerfest will happen, how many shows needed per month to pay rent, whether to buy a new piece of equipment or not - it’s the stuff that’s not obvious at shows, but necessary to keep Placebo going.

The next generation of DIY scenesters starts here! This is your scene too, take care of it!

When: Saturday, July 22 at 2pm
Where: The Placebo — 47B West 3rd St, Eureka (map)
Cost: Free / Donation

Skillshare: Sound

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Abe, The Placebo’s sound expert, is moving to Portland this fall. Don’t miss this chance to learn what he knows about getting shows to sound like they should!

When: Saturday July 15 at 2 pm
Where: E2
Cost: Donation or Free

Skillshare: Planning the BIG Events

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Have a big idea? Julie R and Mike S are leading this workshop (*not* a lecture) on getting big events to happen — stuff like Bummerfest and our annual 24 hour yard sale that need a lot of planning and a lot of people.

When: Saturday July 8 at 2 pm
Where: E2
Cost: Donation or Free
