Kickball and Clara Clara

June 8th, 2007

  • Clara Clara (france) bass, keyboards, drums = chaotic electronic dance-core

When: Friday, June 8 at 7pm
Where: Sacred Grounds in Arcata

The Return of Art Hang

May 24th, 2007

Starting June 8th we’re bringing back The Placebo Art Hang. Every* Friday, from 4-8pm, 47WB becomes an open hang-out space and art studio. Check out our zine library, learn how to knit (it’s useful year-round), bring music to share, use the space for your own projects, or just chill.

We’re also going to be having low-cost skillshares every month starting with topics like Silkscreening, Clothing Hacks, and Zine Making.

All event details are posted here, so check back soon or subscribe to our upcoming events via RSS feed or your calendar software (iCal and Google compatible.)

*Except for the Friday before Arts Alive!, which is when E2 needs the space for Hanging Art

All Volunteers Meeting

May 20th, 2007

This Sunday, May 20th, 5:30 pm:

It’s time for another All Volunteers Meeting. Everyone is welcome to come on down to The Placebo, 47B West 3rd St in Eureka and help organize shows and other events like workshops, hang-out space, Punk Picnic, Bummerfest, and Nerdapalooza. Find out how to get in on planning the good stuff!

If you need a ride from Arcata, show up for the carpool at Sacred Grounds at 5pm.

Yes! You all ROCK

May 16th, 2007

Mucho thanks to everyone who showed up tonight. You totally convinced the Eureka City Council that the 47 West Third community deserves to exist. The Times-Standard wrote, “…the council received a roomfull of applause when they voted to waive a permit fee for Synapsis, The Placebo and Empire Squared, all part of the Ink People Center for the Arts.” Oh, Yeah

We still need to raise money, but now the funds can go to improving our space and getting us open ASAP. We’ll be having some fundraiser shows coming up to help with that. Bands! Wanna play a benefit? Let us know.

In other news, Bummerfest planning has started. The next meeting is today (Wednesday) at 6:30 in Arcata at Redwood Yogurt. We’ll alternate between Arcata and Eureka, so you can participate even if you can’t get a ride over the safety corridor. (Psst. Go to our forums to see the themes people have suggested; register and you can vote for your favorite.)

THANKS AGAIN EVERYBODY!!!

Support The Placebo at City Hall

May 14th, 2007

Tomorrow (Tuesday) 6:30pm, the Eureka City Council is going to decide whether or not to allow The Placebo, Synapsis, and E2 to apply for a Permit to keep our space opening without having to pay $2000.00 first. That’s right, normally we’d have to pay 2 Grand to even *apply* for a permit. Ouch.

The City has been pretty supportive of our efforts to re-open so far, but this is a *really* important step. So if you wanna see more All-Ages Placebo shows, come show your support for us at the City Council meeting!

Where: 2nd floor of Eureka City Hall, 531 “K” Street, Eureka (between 5th & 6th)
When: Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30pm
– Car pool leaving from Sacred Grounds in Arcata at 6pm

Guitar Busted? Learn How to Fix it

March 24th, 2007

The Placebo presents a workshop taught by Elliot Hallmark:

Topics Covered Include:

  • How to read circuit diagrams
  • Electric guitar theory (or how its supposed to work)
  • Common guitar wiring layouts (or what it might have looked like before someone else messed it up)
  • Soldering technique (or, how not to do an embarassing job on your friend’s guitar)
  • Diagnosing and fixing common problems (sound cuts in and out, crackles when you adjust the volume, and just plain doesn’t work).

London Calling parody

You are encouraged to bring your malfunctioning guitars, basses and other pick-up based electronic instruments (they’re all the same, but keyboards, amps, and stuff are completely different). You can fix them at the workshop with a little help. Also, bring your cables and we can even give your mics a go. If you do bring something to fix, bring whatever tools you need to open it.

Note: We’re not saying it’s impossible to fix your basket-case guitar, but there won’t be time in this workshop to do complete rebuilds.

When: Saturday, March 24 at 3pm
Where: The Ink People, 411 Twelfth Street, Eureka, next door to the Muni (map)
Cost: $2-$5 sliding scale (as always, your $2 annual Placebo membership is required)
